City of Lost Souls - Cassandra Clare book 5

City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments, #5)City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

So I agree with some of the other reviews, the first half of this book is very dull.  There isn't much going on and it was hard for me to get through.  The second half makes up for the first and is much more exciting.  Cassandra Clare finishes the book in her style which will have readers craving more and forgiving the first half of the book.

This book is about Clary and the others trying to help sever the bond between Jace and Sebastian.  It was well written and long.  The writing style is good but there are MANY points of views in this story.  You will see Alec, Simon, Isabelle, Maia, Jordan, Clary, Jace, Sebastian, and any other character in the book's point of view.  Which can make the book hard to follow at times.

I give it 3 stars and will read the next.

Last Rite - Lisa DesRochers

Last Rite (Personal Demons, #3)Last Rite by Lisa Desrochers

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I wanted to love this book.

Frannie, Luc, and Gabe are on the run to hide from Lucifer while Frannie works on her sway. A lot of the emotional parts and connections between Frannie/Luc, and Frannie/Gabe seem to be missing. You don't really see Frannie's family or friends in this book. There's a new character named Faith that's pretty sweet and we also have Rhen and Marc back.

Gabe is losing himself to Frannie while Luc is trying to get Frannie to turn him back into a demon so he can help defeat Lucifer. This is what's going on during most of the storyline. Lucifer in the meantime is trying to locate them using his Mage.

I didn't care for the ending at all. I thought, really, that's it? Lisa DesRochers could easily add another book to the series on what happens next. Now for my thoughts on this book:

So this was one of my most anticipated reads for the year and I can't help but say I waited to review it because I wanted to think about how I felt and review it with a clear mind. I agree with another reviewer who said that the book felt rushed. I personally didn't feel any attachment to the characters like I did in the first two books, the things I fell in love with weren't there. I skimmed over pages instead of reading them because I wasn't emotionally invested in the characters. I just felt in comparison to the other two books in the series this one was disappointing.
